1st part
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. nut meats
1 c. chopped dates
2nd part
1/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. white sugar
butter size of walnut
1 1/2 c. water
Mix and bring to a boil; pour over first mixture, mix just enough to combine then put in buttered 8x8 baking dish and bake at 350 for 1/2 hour.
Brown Sugar Sauce
2 c. light brown sugar
4 T. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. boiling water
4 T. butter
2 tsp. vanilla
Mix sugar, flour, salt and cinnamon. Combine with water in saucepan; cook until thick. Add butter and vanilla.
This sauce can be used over the date pudding or over any kind of cake.
King arthur flour version is very close. did this version on 8/-11-18

- 1 cup pitted, chopped dates

- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 1 1/3 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9" round pan.
- Combine the dates with the butter, soda, sugar, salt and spices.
- Stir in the boiling water, and allow the mixture to cool.
- Add the nuts and flour, stirring just to combine.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, and bake the pudding in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until it's set but still very moist.
- Store, covered, for 5 days in the fridge, or freeze for up to 3 months.
